Eye Health and Working with Screens

I went to the opticians today and asked for some tips for someone who spends a lot of time working in front of a screen.

Three tips:

  • Don’t have your monitor at eye level, aim to have it lower. Looking up exposes more of your eye ball leading to dry eyes.
  • Looking at a fixed short distance for prolonged periods acclimatises your eyes to short distances. This will reduce your vision’s effectiveness at longer ranges. Ensure you relax your eyes and reset them by looking at something in the distance every 20 minutes.
  • Make sure you blink! Focussing on something often comes hand in hand with blinking less and gazing more.
